Hi,

i want to know what are the main difference between section VIII analysis and P-Equivalent method.

As per my knowledge in p-equivalent the axial force and bending moment are converted to equivalent pressure of the flange taking into consideration of gasket diameter.

But i didnt understand how is analysis doing in ASME VIII

Please help me to understand the same.

ASME VIII flange calculation is a design procedure. The logic behind using it as a leakage criteria is the fact no flange had leakage when it has been proper designed under ASME VIII and proper installed in place. In fact, when apply ASME VIII to a piping flange it seems you "redesign" each time the flange with B16.5 geometry based on the pressure and "external loads" F and M that are loading that flange.

Frankly speaking, in engineering we are often dealing with set of rules on how to avoid damages rather than to study the damages given by an event. See for example a seismic building code.

Hi

ASME VIII DIV.1 appendix2 and ASME VIII DIV.2 PART 4.16 have already defined the flange design ; in most of cases , it is used to check flange leakage by ASME VIII Div.1 appendix 2 and can be calculated through CAESARII module directly.
It might be my poor experience ; does someone know the history or the reason that why CAESARII select ASME VIII DIV.1 appendix 2 to generate calculated module to check flange leakage but no the other option for user to choose ASME VIII DIV.2 ?

Perhaps too simple an answer - Division 1 is design by rule and Division 2 is design by analysis. Required data for design by analysis is much more detailed than the "quick check" available in CAESAR II.
