Dear Experts,

In one of my project,we are considering clamped shoe for pwht lines.
Now my query is:
1.whether my coefficient of friction will vary(increases) as clamp will slide all around when the pipe is moving?
2.whether we need to model guide also in caesar as practically clamp will resist some lateral movement?

Pls share your views on above.

hi vick

1)clamp shoe is bolted and and tight fitting arrangement on the pipe,it will not slide through the pipe unless you are restrained the shoe in axial direction(Limit Stop).if you want to provide a limit stop you should provide shear lug on both side of the clamp

2)No need to model a guide in caesar as it will not resist any lateral movement ,there will be having only frictional resistance (Mu * vertical Load) on the clamp.

please not that while you are using rest + Guide combination you should check lateral load allowable limit for the clamp apart from guide load limit
