In our project,

40" line is simply resting on the beam with 20 ton vertical load, we provided a Rpad. we have to calculate bearing stresses.

Whether this support is safe with the Rpad or we have to provide shoe type.. on what basis/theory we can say this support is safe or not.

You're talking about detailed support design (which CAESAR II does not address). If your company doesn't have Support Standards you should discuss this with a Support Engineer.

Yes, I know that CAESAR-II does not address it.

In one of projects Client given support standard just we have to follow.. but i have a doubts in that how they did that.

For Ex: after 14" inch they provide wear pad and if it is 24" and above they provide saddle type.

i want to know on what basis..

The basis of a choice between bare pipe resting on a support, the use of a wear plate, a shoe or a saddle all comes down to the same thing. Local stress in the pipe wall and a few related issues.

Local stress in pipe and wear plate / pipe can be dealt with from Roark and there are many good sources for shoe / saddle supports in texts on pressure vessel design.

Can u provide any reference like text book name, or any chapter name..
