Dear Sir,
This question confuesd me very long time, is it must add gaps in stress model according to the pipe support standard???
Normally, the pipe support standard have 2~3mm gap for limit and guide, for easy installation. Someone told me that the gaps in pipe support standard can be ignored in stress model, but someone says no.
With/Without the gap will effect on the equipemnt nozzle load and support load.

As a personal opinion, you would not consider a standard gap of 2 mm because you are not sure it is in place after erection. Ignoring it makes your calculation reasonably conservative and protect you against possible software non-convergence issues.

You have to include a gap of 15 mm, clearly indicated on isometrics to be in place after piping erection.

Finally you remain responsible about the decision to include or not the standards gaps; it is not a matter to be right or wrong but you should think on the credibility of the calculation of a critical system saved by standard gaps.

My current job, applying 2mm gaps on guide increases loads at Pump nozzle, and it exceeds allowable moments. So I requested pump vendor to increase allowable even loads were under allowables after omitted gaps on guides. Because we don't know how the supports will be installed.
