Dear All,

I am doing analysis for GRP piping in CAESAR II 5.3 using BS7159.
in BS7159, allowable stress calculated as Modulus elasticity times design strain

GRP Vendor has provided us with
Modulus elasticity = 12500 Mpa
Maximum allwable short term strain = 0.003
Maximum allwable strain = 0.0017

Which one should i use as design strain ?? (0.003 or 0.0017)

Dear All,

I have one more question related to Allowable stress above.
GRP vendor has provide us with two modulus elasticity,
Hoop tensile modulus elasticity = 22000 Mpa
Axial tensile modulus elasticity = 12500 Mpa
Maximum allowable short term strain = 0.003
Maximum allowable strain = 0.0017

Which one should i use to calculate Allowable stress according BS7159(SH)?

Thanks

1. short term strain is what it says, for short term loadings, like hydrotest, water hammer and so on. For normal OPE cases, use 0.0017.
2. see your other topic: http://65.57.255.42/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=50952#Post50952
