I am working on a piping design and I keep getting an error saying my bend angle on element 5 to 10 is 135 deg; it must be between 5 and 95 deg.

I am very new to this program so this may be very elementary to some. If anyone can give me with information on this issue I would gladly appreciate it.

Thanks

try this = CII configuration editor- geometry directives- Bends - maximum allowable bend angle - change from 95 to 135

I changed the maximum allowable bend angle to 135 but it still doesn't work because my bend angle has to be less than 135.

Thanks for your response

Then set the angle to 140 in the Configuration.

It doesn't go above 135

Well you can force this. Manually edit the "caesar.cfg" file in your data directory using NotePad. Change the value of this directive to 136 or 137.

Please realize that the SIFs and Flexibility factors computed for bends are based on the equations in the Piping Codes. These equations are based on the work of Markl in the 1950s. Markl only tested 90 deg bends. You're quite a bit away from a 90 deg bend. This is why this particular Configuration Directive exists, and why there are limits to it in the Configuration Module.

Or break it into two bends. Draw a tangent line touching your circumference. Put node numbers where this tangent intersects the incoming and exiting pipe centerlines. Do the math to determine DX, DY, DZ.

But Rich's caution still exists.
