Hi,

I have modeled a few expansion joints using the Expansion Joint Modeler. Looking at the deflected shape under operating load, I realise that the bellow element at Node 16 (refer to attached model) is compressed and overlapped with the rigid end pieces. Could someone please clarify.

Also, does Caesar II warn the user if the allowable axial movement at the expansion joint specified by the Expansion Joint Modeler is exceeded.

Thanks and regards,

Steve

I have not looked at your model but judging from what you have written, are you aware that the deflected shape plot is magnified, sometimes by a considerable factor to make viewing easy ? You should perhaps check the actual printed displacements before you worry any more.

Steve,

I copy MoverZ comment. Also, as long as relative displacements of two ends of exp. joint are within allowables provided by vendor, there's no any overlap or failure.

In order to evaluate exp. joints, perform analysis by using CAESAR II main menu>Analysis>Expansion Joint Rating.
