Hello all,

i have a question in connection with the pre-stressed lines, could any one either confirm or correct my approach. I am calculating a system in which some parts are pre-stressed. design temp is 135C and some pipes have been pre-stressed in 80C before they get connected to the rest of the system. i simply considered the design temp of the pre-stressed parts 55C (135-80). is it right?

regards
Pooria

Hello Pooria,

The existing piping system is at rest when you connect new pipes to it.
Also, 80C is operating temp. of the existing sytem while 135C is design temp. of the new one. I think you should change your approach. Besides, after connecting two systems, temperature will be stable for whole system. So it's important to know final temp. of the whole system. Ask your process colleague for differrent process scenarios.
