I have an existing rigid hanger rod support - one end attached to pipe and top end attached to the platform of a vessel.

How do we model this : say support point is node 100 and platform (rigid element) end is node 150 and there is a gap of 1500mm vertical between the 2.

Don't refer to the distance between 100 & 150 as a gap. If 100 and 150 will always have the same, relative, vertical position, then you have a Y restraint at 100 with a CNode of 150. Define the imposed displacement of 150.
