When I run my Pipe Stress Model, I receive the following warning:

The computed minimum bend thickness is greater than the user specified wall thickness.

Why is it saying that the bend thickness has to be greater than the pipe? ASME B16.9 standard for wrought fittings says that the thickness for bends shall be equivalent to that of straight seamless pipe as established in the piping code.

Caesar does not say that the there is any problem with the pipe wall thickness. When I go to the output and view the miscellaneous pipe report, it says that the minT for elements with bends is greater than for straight pipe.

That message is intended for bent pipe rather than forged elbows. Ignore it if your bends are listed (in B16.9)

Dear Mr. Dave Diehl,

For a hot or cold induction bend if the message is displayed as like "The computed minimum bend thickness is greater than the user specified wall thickness." what kind of action to be taken.
Since the pipe bend thickness is already calculated manually as per the code requirement and entered in the stress analysis.

But why the Caesar-II says that the "The computed minimum bend thickness is greater than the user specified wall thickness."

Please clarify.........

I suggest you go back and check your manual calc, CII and the manual calc should be the same answer. You may need to pull your bends from thicker pipe.

Caesar do this thickness check. If you have doubts, you can have a discusion with the people that issued the piping material specification (piping class) and ask them if their thickness is wright.
