I’m not sure what temperature I should assign to a Safety Relief Valve Tie-back support that rests on a main run pipe?!! Is it going to be the same as the main run pipe’s temperature?! The main-run temperature divided by 2?! Please, advise.

Please correct me if I am wrong, you are trying to support safety relief valve with a structural member attached on the main steam pipe. If this is the case the support will not be working because of the differantial temperature b/w the nozzle and the support member. Very short time after the start up the nozzle will expand more than the structural support member, and the support action will not be there any more.

I guess this is sufficient if I did understand correctly. There are several discussion in the forum on the same subject. I suggesst you to check them for further inquiry.

Ibrahim you are correct; I have a dummy leg comes down from the SRV discharge elbow to rest on the main steam pipe. I have the inlet to the valve and the dummy leg (stanchion) insulated. I know the dummy leg will be hot but not as hot as the main run anyway. I'm however not sure how hot it will get and this was my inquiry?!
