Dear all,

I have some confusion to select the spring hanger in Caesar

1. For Cold design(200+series) theoretical load become a hot load for Hot load(400+ series) design hanger. How?

2.Many designers prefer that the hot load be centered as close as possible to the middle of the spring table what is the advantage for that one? If need which I have to select whether cold design (200+ series) or hot design(400+ series)

3. In general Which way the recommended design by for springs (Coade) ? Whether hot design or cold design?

4.When we have to use predefined hanger data?

5.In general practice for rotating equipment we have to consider first spring as anchor free. Is it required for static equipment?

Dear All,

I too have some doubt regarding the spring selection

Hot Load Design:
For the selection of springs, 5 or 405-series springs, C-II runs the "Restrained Weight case" and considers this load as HOT Load.

In reality this the exact dead load acting on the spring in sustain condition, then why we need to swap the Cold load to Hot load in case of HOT Design spring.

Cold Design:
Also, incase of 205-series (cold design) springs, C-II runs the "Restrained Weight case" & here the load is considered as Theoretical COLD load. How?

I understood that we have the option of selecting either HOT design spring or COLD design springs.

On which case, we need to go for Hot design or Cold design spring?
Could someone please reply.

The "Restrained Weight" case sets the design load, hot or cold. That can be considered the balanced load.
Let's assume the pipe grows up from hot to cold. Then, for (default) hot load design, the hot load will be set by that "Restrained Weight" case and that same spring must also carry the LARGER cold load. For cold load design, the cold load will be set by that "Restrained Weight" case and that same spring must also carry the SMALLER hot load. These two approaches may pick the same spring but they need not be the same.
The question, then, is, when should this support be "balanced"?

Of course a little human intervention may be necessary to tune things up.
