Dear all
I am using CAESAR II 5.1 for analyzing above ground pipeline as per ASME B31.8, and the output results for the allowable expansion stresses are always zero (Note: Not the allowable stresses field in the operation load case code compliance value, it is the allowable stresses field in the expansion load case).
I know that this subject was discussed before in the forum , and if i can recall my memories, i remember that it is been told that the output will be repaired in the next version of CAESAR .
The problem that i am unable to locate where this subject was discussed, and if any body can help, i will be appreciated.
(Note : the "restrained as 833.1" field is off in the inputs)

Regards
Ahmad Akila

On the first element in the model, (on the Allowable Stress dialog), the Radio Button for “Restrained as per 833.1” is set to “Off”. This means the pipe is unrestrained. For this condition the Code does define equations for the Expansion Stress and a corresponding allowable value. This is why you see a specific allowable stress in the output (270.86 N/sq.mm.).

On the second element in the model, (on the Allowable Stress dialog), the Radio Button for “Restrained as per 833.1” is set to “On”. This means the pipe is restrained. For this condition the Code does not define equations for the Expansion case – hence CAESAR II puts a value of 0.00 in the allowable stress column.
