Hi All,

Can anybody give lights on basics of thermal bowing, how CAESAR performs.

Again, how to calculate the Ttop temperature of pipe, during initial cool down and what will be the line temperature need to input.

Thanks&Rgds
Manju

Thermal bowing introduces a bending moment on each (horizontal) segment of pipe. The user must determine and define the "delta temperature" across the cross section. (This should really be defined by the process under investigation.)

Richard,

Thanks.

Is there any guideline that, how much maximum differential temperature (Ttop-Tbot), we can normally accept for SS304 pipe.

As large bending of horizontal section of pipe due to the shrinkage of pipe at the bottom for the large differential temperature (in case of cryogenic line)cannot be restrained by holddown. In this case how much max diferential temperature we can accept from process.

Please provide your thoughts and experience.

Thanks&Rgds
Manju

I'm sorry, but I cannot answer your question. Hopefully someone else can offer you something on this issue.

Hi Manju

Pipe stress should not dictate process about how much "Thermal bowing delta temperature" they should provide rather than it should follow reverse direction.
We need to play with support location & type & other flexibility option to accommodate process supplied temperature difference.
