Hi, I have some doubts regarding the way Caesar II computes the code stress.
According with the Quick Reference Guide:

1) If FAC = 1.0 (fully restrained pipe)
FAC*abs(E a dT - uShoop) + Shoop < 0.9(Syield) (OPE)

2) If FAC = 0.001 (buried, but soil restraints modeled)
Fax/A - uShoop + Sb + Shoop < 0.9(Syield) (OPE)

3) If FAC = 0 (fully above ground)
Slp + Fax/A +Sb + Shoop < 0.9(Syield) (OPE)

The formula in 1) is the same shown in the code, but i donīt understand how is derived the formula in point 2).
Also i canīt see from wich part of the code is derived formula in point 3). Furthermore, I'm performing a stress analysis of a scraper trap line, and the code stress computed for above ground pipe is: Slp+Sb and the allowables are zero.
Also allowables are zero for under ground pipe with soil restraints modeled.

I hope anyone can clarify this.

Best Regards.

Diego Lorenzo

Assuming you're running Version 5.20, make sure you download the build of Sept 4th. The equations for B31.4 in the Quick Reference Guide were mangled by the "documentation system", and corrected in this latest build.

Yes, the issue is only with the documentation.

Regarding this issue, I am modeling for the first time Underground pipeline; the Caesar II version that I am using is 5.10.02 (Build 080512).
Do I have to concern in regarding the topic mentioned?

Thank you

As we find in the current version of CAESAR II 5.20 that it gives the check for allowable stresses only with restraint case option on for B 31.8. My question is we have system partly abovegound and partly underground. Where the aboveground section is with restrained off and the burried section with restrained on. Under such scenario how the stress shall be checked.

Also we have one more query, we find some results that shows the stress check for expansion case also in B 31.8 case. However on further checking we find that if the restrained made on the problem is rectified.

Can some body provide guideline on this
