Hi all,

I am designing a spring can. But I found that the hot load given on the hanger support is not same the load on the restraint summary at operating condition.

My understanding is the the hangner is designed based on the load at the operating condition. So the hot load of hanger should be same as the load at operating condition.

Can anybody help to explain why? The following is reports:

THEORETICAL ACTUAL
NO. FIG. VERTICAL HOT INSTALLED INSTALLED SPRING HORIZONTAL

Look very closely at that hanger report. Notice the column labeled "No. Reqd", which is the number required. There is a 2 in your report.

So 2 * 15728 = 31456, which is very close to your 31474, a difference of 18N. Considering the spring's stiffness is considered in the OPE case but not in the "hanger design" case, this is about as good as it gets.
