hi,
1.I am facing problem with nozzle loads of 150 Ft dia tank, having settlement of 8" (temp.200 deg F)
1st support is from tank foundation and with 'Z ' type routing, still nozzle loads are high.
2.How to ensure that support taken from tank foundation should take load, as in my case it is not taking load and fails in sustained case,(2nd support is at 20 ft)

Plz suggest me any advice for this

Thanks & Regards

Amrutesh

Hi Amrutesh,

Please clarify have you applied the displacement value at the support aslo? If yes then in what case? Second what support you had used near the nozzle?

A spring may be required, The first support will settle with the tank foundation so the pipe will lift off the support. Either you need more flexibility between the first support and second support so the pipe will deflect and the support will take load or a spring which will apply load as the tank settles.

Thanks for your response

1st support is rest support only with the same disp as that of tank, and 2nd support is almost 30 ft away with Z type routing, I think it is enough flexible ,
Anybody about Vanstone Flanges?
they are going to be used there,
how to take effect of Vanstone Flanges?

I would suggest you to go with the spring hanger instatde of using the rest support. Then you can use the next support as a guide support just to take care of the pipe.
If possible send me the snap shot of the Pipe routine.

I forgot to mention abot the Vanstone flanges. These are the special flanges which can be used where the continuous diamentling is requird. These flanges have a special rotating ring which can be adjusted for the bolting purpose.

Generally these type of flanges are used for joining the plastic piping system.

I think you should be careful using a spring on a tank line. Can the line be empty ? You are attempting to protect against excess nozzle loads, but if a large liquid filled line can indeed be empty, the difference in weeight load may be a factor of 5. What would that huge upward spring load do to your nozzle ? Possibly rip it off ?

I presonally prefer a simple pipe route and a double ties bellows (rods horizontal of course)on the nozzle, which solves settlement and bulge / rotation in one go.

I also prefer tied expansion bellow to absorb large tank settlement unless process put objection of using it.

Presently I am working on a revamp project. I find there so many hose is used on existing tank nozzle.

I am bit confused betweet hose & tied bellow to be used in new tank connection ?
I know hose can be used only in low pressurec service, same thing is applicable for bellow also.

Can anybody please explain / provide technical reference to distinguse between that two flexible items.

Hi Anandya

Can you guide me, if say engineering is told to decide what will be the basis/criteria to choose between hose & bellow.
