Hello,

If this question would not be related to this forum, please accept my apology.

I am using clamped pipe shoes and have couples of them as line stoppers. One of max axial force is about 50 kN for 12" pipe and 28 kN for 8" which are way high considering pipe size though. Clamp manufacturer's recommended load is 11 kN and 7 kN for 12" and 8", respectively.

Is there any special clamp for sustain this load? Can I use three or more clamps welded to one shoe to distribute loads to each clamp?

Any idea or advice is welcome.

Thanks

Unless you cannot allow welding to the pipe, a decent welded linestop is probably the answer. The load is so large that I would be concerned a clamping load to resist it would risk damaging the pipe wall.

I took over this analysis, was busy with checking others and recently just realized that the loads were too high. Everything has been built and just ready to install. FEA analysis checking local stress for pipe wall damage might be one option but it seems to be too late and could be the last resort.

I was considering two half-pipe pads, one on the top and the other on the bottom and welding three or four clamps to a shoe.

Thanks for your advice, MoverZ.

That seems like a reasonable solution.
