I am working on a piping system contains a diaphragm pump ( with 4 pumping elements). Our process guy ask vendor to design the pump for steam out condition, which looks suspicious from the pump drawings. There are 4 pump elements parallel to each other, and share the suction and discharge line.

I have not done any work on diaphragm pump before, and am wondering this kind of pump can handle steam out or not.

Second, if the pump comes with pulsation dampers, shall I still consider dynamic analysis?

I assume you are a new Stress Engineer, right?
If so why are you involved at this point or involved at all.

It is up to the Pump Engineer to deal with the Process Engineer and the Pump Vendor.

After they waste a lot of time with this issue and finally make a decision then you can also waste a lot of time trying to decide if this type and size of pump requires "dynamic analysis" or just a visual review.

Find an old timer with a lot of stress experience and discuss it with him.

It dose not matter I am a new stress engineer or not to be involved. I will not discuss with the process engineer since it's not my scope of work. I am just curious about the steam out to the pump.

Maybe you can do visual review for this kind of job, but for me, a 4" pipe with steam out connected to a pump worth a Caesar analyze.

I talked with my boss and now clear about the dynamic issue.
