Hello Everybody,
I have an 18” water intake line that I am routing to an existing pump nozzle. I would like to add a coupling to allow for vibration, pump maintenance, and movement. The coupling has allowances for deflection, expansion, and contraction. I would like to model this in CII as an expansion joint but am undecided on input for bending and transverse stress. Input for axial and torsion I am thinking should be 1. Effective ID I have calculated, per CII given equation, to be 23.36”. This coupling has a metal ring with a gasket compressing between the ring, follower, and pipe. I am hesitant on modeling it as say a flexible bellow, but perhaps a flexible zero length expansion joint instead? I am small fries and have a limited license so I like to get my ducks in a row before hitting the run button. Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you,
JAC.
