I am new to Stress Analysis.
Which theory of failure is applicable to ASME 31.1 & ASME 31.3 ?

CAESAR II bydefault comes with TRESCA Theory(Max. Shear Stress Theory) which is basically a diffrence between two principal stress however you have option to change it to Von Mises.

It is your company resposibility to provide you refferences. If you want research, probably it is posible using the internet. just search for your topic. I JUST CANT SEND YOU MY COPY AS PER COPY RIGHT IS CONCERN. lolz
And it is hard copy not electronic file.

as mention above, the tresca and von mises are used in the design because as it said "practical uses". you can search that over the net.

Regards!

Hello Shree

There is a wealth of discussion of this topic available in the archives of this forum that you can find by using the search function that you will see on the upper right side of this board (above the calendar).

Caesar II calculations are based upon the Code that you pick for the analysis. The calculations used by the Caesar II software to combine stresses in accordance with the ASME B31 Pressure Piping Codes are based upon Tresca failure theory.

You can find a review of this topic simply by "Googling" the topic "theories of faliure". Here is an example:
