We have added two new materials to our CAESAR II materials database to represent the revised material allowables in the B31.1 (2005 revision) for A53-B and A106-B piping materials. I have added these as materials 401 and 402.

We have then copied the revised .bin file to other computers so we are all using the same material database.

Another engineer has opened up two existing CAESAR II models on his machine, that we need to use the revised material properties for. Model A works perfectly, when we change the material to material 401, all the correct properties are displayed, however for the second model model B, when we change the material to 401, we are getting allowables that are a mixture of both the old material allowables (103MPa) and the revised allowables (117 MPa). If we then try to reload the material again we just get the old allowable numbers (103Mpa).

We have tried access these models on other machines and are experiencing the same problems.

The new materials have been named A106-B(2005) and A53-b(2005) so they have unique names.

Does anyone have any idea what may be happening? Any ideas would be appreciated.

We have tried putting the 2 models into the same directory but still experience the same problems.

Send the models and your Umat1.bin file to us at techsupport@coade.com and we will take a look.

I suspect that in the model that isn't working, some of the values were actually "typed" in. Once this happens, CAESAR II assumes you want that value and won't update it from the database.

You can test this out by identifying a particular value that isn't being updated. "Swipe" that "edit box" and delete the value. Then change the material - see if it updates.
