Hi all,

I've met some stress analyst confessing that somewhere back more than 15 years ago, they used design pressure and design temperature instead of design pressure and operating temperature in their stress analysis. Could anybody shed the light or the rationale behind the change from design temp. to operating temp? Has code really emphasized the use of ope. and design temp on the early 90's in stress analysis?

Thanks for the enlightenment.

Ive been at this for a long time... Having said that I always tried to capture the maximum displacement strain.... this may be at operating min, operating max, or operating steady state.

The terms "Design" pressure and temperature I learned early on were terms only associated with pressure design. However the enlightened firm I first worked for is no longer (Arthur G McKee). It was bought up, had its pension fund trimmed of surplus, and then finally was closed by its new owners, (Turning work away amazingly enough).....

Lets take a column being started up with a line attached to it. The lines growth may help it match the growth of the column yet on start up its temperature may lag enough to cause the gretest displacement stress to occur during start up!
