I'm surprized no one has come to your rescue.
'Type: S' is not a Grinnell or Anvil spring type. 'type S hanger' could be your company's lingo for 'Spring' hanger.
The other numbers match exactly for a size 39 Constant Support spring. In your spring catalog, turn the pages past variable springs and you'll find constant springs and size/travel/load table. For 10" total travel you'll see 1497 lbs is the max load.
Since you have a constant spring hanger, you type in your load in the Constant Effort Support Load' block under 'pre-defined hanger data'
It's strange the hanger bottomed out with a large movement up. Several things could be causing your problem.
1. The hanger was never sized for the correct load or movement.
2. The hanger was not installed correctly with the travel indicater at the cold position when the system was cold.
