G'day everybody. Forthe life of me, I can't seem to find an example of modelling a tee in any of the manuals and tutorials. Can someone please verify that what I am doing is correct.... Say for a simple 200mm equal tee Sched XXS. Looking at catalogues it has an equal 178mm length from the centre on all three directions. If this is butt-welded to a 200mm XXS pipe that is 1000mm long on all 3 points, do I just do something like Node 10 to 20 => 1000 + 178 mm = X = 1178 then another node 20 to 30 also X = 1178 mm and finally the one perpendicular leg will be node 20 to 100 with the length now at Y = 1178? I do notice that there is the SIFs as well but I am not sure how this input works. Thanking you all in advance.

Pickles,

I don't have the manuals with me, but I'm certain modeling of tees is in there somewhere.

However, in answer to your question, your example is correct except that you must tell Caesar what type of joint you have in order for the appropriate SIFs to be considered. In this case, while you are in the 10 to 20 spreadsheet, double click on the SIFs & Tees box and specify Welding (which means a regular welded tee). You can actually do this in any of the three spreadsheets: 10 to 20, 20 to 30, or 20 to 100. I prefer to do it on the first one. Unless you are manually specifying SIFs you only need to do this in one place. (I've seen many analysts enter the joint type on all three spreadsheets but its unnecessary.)

Finally, don't forget that hitting F1 will give you a help screen describing the currrent cursor position. Try doing this while you are on the SIFs & Tees box.

Regards,

be carefull with sifs.
A standard tee as described in the sif pull down is ok.
But, if you have to input your own sifs(and that's not the case here) you must apply the sif to all three ends.
