hi,
please advise me about modelling of expansion joint in caesar2.
i select expansion joint. After that, i fill axial stiff, trans stiff and effectiveID.
i checked from the old project. they select retraint for control direction of
expansion joint.
for example, they input expansion joint in z-axis (node 10 to 20).
After that, they open new spread sheet and input something as belowed;
-input node 10 to 30. length is equal expansion joint length
-select retraint
-input node 30 and Cnode 20
-select type of retraint is Ry, Rz and x.
I dont know that why ????

It could be the tie rods. Check the Application Manual on how to model tied and untied exp. bellows

Of course it's best for you to be able to completely define your own model but in CAESAR II we have an "Expansion Joint Modeler" that will build an expansion joint assembly for you based on some basic xj criteria. It sounds to me that the old input model describes the xj modeler construction for a tied xj, and, as RS states, that extra (rigid, weightless and ambient) element models the tie rods that allow the joint only to translate laterally and twist.

Hi
I am also tied up with a similar problem .( i am a novice) I am here seeking help aswell.

May be some Guru's can help us.

especially for high pressure lines the catalogue just spits out an error saying that the design pressure exceeds limits.

So I have asked a supplier to give me the data.

He has given me Axila spring rating , Lateral,
and the Max allowale deflections.

So i will just input the data into the Expansion bellow data manually . and check for the loads on the Pump nozzle ( make it an Anchor ) and if there are any displacements add the displacements.

Please correct me if i am wrong.
THanks in advance.
