Typically in a piperack I have a 80"NB gas pipe & 10" pipe. What should be the span width for rack UDL - c/l distance between the two pipes, c/l distance + 1/2 the combined OD of the two pipes or the whole pipe span, when we know no major piping will be laid afterwords in the rack ?

Why I have given this hypothetical problem is that in the name of UDL, whether it is wise to design a structural floor for the concentrated UDL over a small span or better to give the concentrated load & location instead for optimised design ?

I feel as it is related to the piping stress community & the inputs we provide civil to design piperack, openness among ourselves is better. We must learn the latest ways anyway!
