Do any one has experience in doing ASME SEC III analysis with Caesar. I am trying to understand code equation 10/11 and 11a and its application in Caesar II.

Sec III calls for compliance with Eq 10 or Eq 11 and Eq 11a (If my interpretation of clause ND-3653.2 is correct)Is my understanding correct? or is it Eq 10 and 11 or 11a ??

My understanding is;
For Class 2&3 piping per NC/ND-3650, Equation (10) limits the range of self-limiting secondary load moments due to thermal expansion while Equation (10a) limits the range of self-limiting secondary load moments due to single non-repeated anchor movements like building/equipment settlement.
Equation 11 limits the amount of stress that the pipe may experience due to combined effect of pressure, weight, and secondary load ranges

The equation (11) need not be evaluated if equation 10 is satisfied.

I don’t know what is Equation (11a)…I left nuclear power plant 15 years ago. May be, Code is revised ?

can we eveluate only Eq 11 instead of Eq 10, Reason is Eq 11 has more allowable loads (Sa+Sh) compared to Sa in eq 10.

Well….it is a good question. My answer is “YES” but it will depend on the project criteria. You’d better ask to other stress guy who is currently working for Nuclear Power Plant with ASME III Code.
It will have more allowable only when a system has low level of primary stress. Equation (11) is similar to the conception of liberal allowable stress in ASME B31.3.
