Hello amit-frames

The original issue was the design of rectangular vessels, and later stiffeners came into the mix. The answer to that question is still ASME VIII, Division 1 Appendix 13. CodeCalc has the functionality to do that analysis complete with stiffeners. So, that part of the question is really 'put to bed' now.

Next the issue of underground tanks was raised. The problem there is the fact that the pressure profile exerted by the soil is not just one pressure. Appendix 13 can only handle one pressure (external or internal), so the method in CodeCalc has to be used with extreme caution.

The issue of double wall rectangular tanks was raised. The method in ASME Appendix 13 does not address that, following which CodeCalc cannot do it either.

The issue of external loads on Nozzles was discussed. There are two methods available in PV Elite or CodeCalc. That is WRC 107, or the use of the Paulin Research group software NozzlePRO which is available from Intergraph, and it works with PV Elite or as a stand-alone programme.

One final word on the use of the Forum. It is better to concentrate on one issue rather that adding other issues that are not directly related. This is not a strict rule, but it is much easier to concentrated on one subject at a time.
