Dear Experts,
We have received one of client's specification & ASME B 31.3 Appendix D requirement.
Specification shows that in order to have minimum stress concentrations at welding Tee, client wish to follow for all TEES ASME B 16.9.
Based on our study from the ASME B31.3 Appendix D, (Tee) Note 8 is given at Welding Tee (CAESAR Type-3) & Welded-in contour insert.
Note 8 shows that "if rx >_ 1/8 Db and Tc >_ 1.5 T,a flexibility characteristic of 4.4 T / r2 may be used".
I took the example from note 8 & try to calculate based on
h = 4.4 T/r2. the SIF (Out-plane)value is low, which also reduce the bending stresses.
However, CAESAR directly take as h = 3.1 T/r2,so its SIF(O) is higher than Note 8.
I need help from all of you, should we calculate separately this kind of calculations & take advantage to reduce SIF (O) & bending stresses?
Tee vendors / Manufacturers has to follow ASME B 16.9, as per Piping requirement. We can follow the diamention from their catalogs.
Dear Dave / Richard, share your experience for this quote, whether it is possible to follow or not?
Thanks
Regards
