Dear All,

if i want to put the legs on the bottom head, how can i specify "the distance from Node"? Also with sthis configuration can i check the WRC-107 for leg/head junction?

Thanks in Advance

Hello controlec

This is a very interesting point. Never ever attache legs to a bottom head if the vessel weighs more than 1 gramme (1/28 ounce). Always attach legs to the main shell of the vessel. The reason for this is twofold:

1. You have point loads on the head
2. If you have wind or seismic loads, the bending stresses can be very high in the head.

This form of construction is popular in Germany, but unless the stresses are carefully analysed, you could have fatigue problems further down the road.

Now, if you are absolutely forced to attach legs to the bottom of the head, get all the forces and moments associated with the most severely loaded leg, and do a WRC 107 analysis on that leg to head junction. Rather beg and plead with the purchaser to move the legs to the shell.
